Belle of the Theater

When I was a little girl, my favorite Disney movie for a brief time was Beauty and the Beast. Most of the time it was the Lion King, but for a good chunk of my childhood I idolized Belle. She was beautiful, smart, witty, and loved to read. Just like me. And most importantly, she had brown hair like me. I was very upset when I couldn’t find brown hairs dollies back in the day.

Flashback to my very first box of DotDotSmile dresses: When I opened the box these was a size 2 golden ballerina dress sitting on top looking straight at my. Gingie was still a solid 12-18m street clothes. So I let it sit for weeks before I finally took it for her and let her live vicariously through her Belle dress.

But I digress… this evening was the 3rd night of the local theater group’s production of Beauty and the Beast. We had a friend performing (she was a fork and a villager), and JS and I realized I had not had a date night essentially ever. So we asked a friend to watch Miss Sassy and I put on my lips and straightened my hair and went into the woods towards the castle.

It was amazing. The performers were high school students, but you would have no idea. Brilliant production numbers, beautiful voices, and stunning costumes.

The costumes were my favorite. Beast was impeccable. The “flirty girls” had twirly dresses that fluttered when they ran and jumped (hint hint), and the crew were completely recognizable and in full character.

LaFou and Gaston were a riot. Mrs. Potts (my favorite character in the cartoon) was an incredible voice as well.

I love supporting the community, and I love encouraging the arts. Bravo Beaumont Community Players!
