Each week when Gingie and I attend GTS, we walk through the streets of Barrington Heights. Before the time shifted for Daylight Savings, we used to run/walk straight back on the highway, which turned out to be about 3 miles. But once the clocks turned back it was very dark, and the sidewalks get slippery. We decided it was best to stay in a residential area.
A hidden benefit to running through a residential area is seeing all the holiday lights. Almost every house was decorated, some with elaborate lights and music. It was beautiful. We enjoyed seeing the new houses that would pop up each day, and anticipated the new ones the following week.
The Stroll
On the Wednesday before the holidays, GTS hosted a Holiday Lights Stroll for families. The Strutters brought out their children and spouses, decorated their strollers, and even hooked up a portable sound system to a wagon. We walked the streets of Barrington Heights, while some runners jot ahead. The group even had two bike escorts (which were of course decorated with lights and mini speakers as well).
We finished back in the parking lot where we meet up. I had brought some chocolate free “chocolate chip” cookies, and others brought various snack and drinks. There was even adult egg nog.
It was a blast, and the perfect start to the holiday season.
