My Amazon Prime Day Cart

We’ll, thank God that is over. Between Amazon Prime Day and every other retailer throwing in their 50% or more off sales, my wallet is exhausted. On the plus side, I am going to be very happy in a few days when all my packages arrive. The postal worker on the other hand, not so much.

I didn’t get an InstaPot, or Roomba. I didn’t snag a new Garmin fitness watch, nor will I be checking my DNA heritage any time soon. Although they were good deals, it’s important to remain practical. All of these items, and many others, were flying off the shelves again this year and into the homes of other people.

So let’s chat about my Amazon Prime Day Cart: what I purchased on Amazon Prime Day this year, and what I wish I bought.

But first… Prime Deception

Did anyone else notice the shady pricing details in the some of the department? Obviously the Amazon products had the highest percentages off, because they run the party and can do what they want. But I was definitely giving side eye to some of the other products claiming to be more than 50% off and still on the upper end of my budget. Common marketing tactic is to increase the price before a sale so the % discount can be high, but this was out of hand. There were so many super cute dresses for 50% off, but when you looked at the prices they weren’t spectacular. Thank you, next. I didn’t get any of that.

Pro Tip: There’s a Chrome extension called Honey that automatically looks for and applies promo codes when you shop online. There’s also a feature called droplist, which alerts you when an item on your list drops in price. That being said, it also shows the history of price changes. Meaning, you can add an item to your droplist before a sale and make sure that the “before” price is a legitimate before. (Click here to get Honey)

Here is my Amazon Prime Day Cart

1. Rocketbook Everlast Executive and Mini Wirebound Notebook
The very first item we purchased was this bundle. Truth is, Jonathan has been looking at the Rocketbook products since they were a kickstarter campaign but never bit the bullet and grabbed one. We both are fans of physically writing notes, especially in his career, but paper is not only a limited resource but also can easily be damaged. The solution is a notebook that digitally backs up your notes! On Day 1 of Prime Days, we looked at Rocketbook and there was a deal but we decided to wait until Day 2 and order it all together. Luckily we did, because there was a Lightning Deal bundle for even less than the one book full price.

2. Caruso Professional Molecular 14-Piece Mutiple Size Steam Hair Setter

I might be returning these. These steam rollers have a cult following, but my hair never keeps anything (straight or curl) so it takes a lot to impress me. Unlike heat curlers, these use steam. There’s a lot of scientific jargon in the description, that reads like bs, but if it works it work. My thoughts is that it combines low heat and moisture to lock in the curls, much like when my mom used to braid my hair after a shower and I slept with it. If it works, I’ll keep it. The 14-piece retails $29, and the lightning deal was for $22. There’s also a larger set for $45, and replacement rollers for about $10.

3. Amazon Echo Dot

We already have two Amazon Echos (an original, and an Echo Spot), but seeing the Echo Dot for only $22 was very tempting. Basically they were BOGO, and I love a good BOGO deal. Although we were going to make our Prime Day purchase when Jonathan got home from work, I noticed the Echo Dots were selling out (black was already gone around 3pm). So instead, I snagged two of them while in the parking lot of my eyebrow wax reservation. We don’t know where they’re going yet, possibly pairing them up as a television surround sound, but either way I’m glad I got it when I did.

4. RXBAR, Chocolate Sea Salt, Protein Bar

Definitely an impulse buy, even though I put a lot of thought, and math, into choosing which flavor had the best price per bar (without pecans or walnuts). I spotted an advert for the Prime Day deal on Facebook and clicked it, ignored it. But then it popped up again while browsing and I added it to my watch list. Then I showed Jonathan and he didn’t say no. Honestly, I’ve never seen these bars this cheap, so they really are a great deal. They’re incredibly delicious, and good stuff is inside. But did we need them… not so much.

5. All-New Amazon Kindle

One of my goals for 2019 was to read 5+ books per month, and with Kindle Unlimited it is totally possible. However, my eyes have been taking a beating after bedtime staring at my phone with the tiny screen and light. I’ve secretly been wanting to get a Kindle, so I decided to spoil myself. At first we were worried about the 4g of memory, but with Kindle Unlimited there’s no need to keep the e-book after you’re finished, so they don’t take up space. I debated for literally both days and into the night before I finally said screw it, treat yo’ self don’t cheat yo’ self.

But I DIDNT Get (and Sorta Wish I had…)

There were one item that I may have buyers remorse, er not-buyers.

1. Bentgo Kids Bright Bento-Style Kids Lunch Box
My regret here may only be because I showed CA and she was excited. This Bentgo box was a lightning deal for $18, and I put it in my cart but it sold out before I checked out. Truthfully, it probably isn’t necessary. I’ve already found a few similar options, so it’s not the end of the world.

So tell me…

Did you buy anything on Amazon Prime Day? Let me know! Especially if I missed something to keep on my list for Black Friday.

As always, I may be compensated for any purchases made through links on this blog, but all opinions are my own. You can read my full disclosure statement here
