We knew when Gingie was born that it would be difficult at times. We knew she would be prone to sickness, and we knew there were days when she wouldn’t be able to play. Thankfully, she isn’t nearly as autoimmune as we were led to believe. But she is still a toddler, and she has limits.
We had made plans to go to the Houston Zoo with Lily-friend, and although Gingie was feeling under the weather, we decided to go anyway.
The Flower Family invited us out, so we had to go. The day started out fine. We looked at the birds, and the large game, and the bugs. I am much less frightened by giant cockroaches when they are behind glass and not in my kitchen. There are longhorn cattle with horns that are literally too big to proportionately stay upright (yet they do). We went to the children’s zoo to flirt with the meerkats, pet the goats, and watch the roadrunner zip side to side. Then we watched the giraffes and their purple tongues reach high up into the trees, and the elephants and zebras hang out below.
Lily’s Aunt Sarah stopped in to join us, and we went through the primate exhibit. Both girls love making monkey sounds!
Iris even had a carousel ticket, so we took it for a spin! Unfortunately this is when Gingie started to feel the toll of the day.
We zipped through large cats and made it back to the front. The red pandas were already asleep, and the reptile house was closing. But we still had time for Natural Encounters, which is Lily’s favorite exhibit. The girls chased the fish and crawled through the tube beneath the aquarium. Overall, we had a wonderful time and can’t wait to go back when Gingie is feeling 100%!
