Y’all, the reading community is such a beautiful place.
After joining Kelsie Rae’s Facebook community group, for fans of her work, I quickly connected with some of the other members. When the books release, we share excitement together. Especially when a new Signature Sweetheart book is released.
Long story short, I use Kindle Unlimited for my books. I strongly recommend this subscription program, as I have in the past, if you are an avid reader and go through books quickly. Some authors, however, don’t add their new released to the KU lineup (which makes sense, from a marketing and profit standpoint). I joked in the group that I didn’t want to wait, and another member offered to buy me the book! It is only $3, and I could have purchased it myself. But that fact that she offered was such a blessing. I fully intend on paying it forward another day, for an unexpected fellow reader.
In an effort to hold myself more accountable on this year’s goal to read 50+ books, this year I will also be sharing some book reviews. First up, Skye by Kelsie Rae.
Book Review: Skye by Kelsie Rae
The Signature Sweetheart “Series” zig zags across relationships and plot lines between friends, siblings, and roommates. Each novel reads fine as a standalone, but working through the series is an experience all in its own. The sneak peaks and hints dropped before a new book is launched, plus minor follow up details in later books, leave the reader wanting to continue with the series to learn more about their favorite characters.
Synopsis
Skye is the eighth full length novel in the series, ninth if you count a novella, and follows the relationship of Skye and Liam. Skye, sister to Sway (from the previous novel Anthony) and Saylor, works as a Nanny for a 6 year old boy. That little boy’s older brother, Liam, is a flirt, a playboy, and racks up his father’s credit card bills like it’s his job. Because it’s not like he has a job. When Daddy Dearest sets an ultimatum to grow up, get married, and show responsibility, Liam hires a fiance. But when she doesn’t want to sign the prenup, Skye decides to fill the roll. She believes that somewhere, under his bad attitude and immature ways, Liam isn’t that bad.
So the pair tie the knot and set off on their honeymoon to see the world, and end up learning a lot about each other in the process. But nothing prepares them for what’s waiting for them when they get home.
Review
As a big fan of the series, I expected to like this book. But after reading it, in one night, it is certainly one of my favorites in the series. Both characters really grow throughout the novel, and throw some curveballs in the end. Cliche scenes, like when Liam tells Skye to “loosen up and live a little” before attending a wine tasting, and she takes his advice to heart takes an unexpected turn that leaves you laughing. I gave it 5 stars on Goodreads, but it would probably be more of an 8.5/10 on a wider scale because of some mild plot eye rolls.
