Y’all- I have the cutest family unit, and the receipts to prove it. We recently had fall photos taken, and they are absolutely lovely. I’ve shared a few on social media but decided they deserve a blog post all of their own.
I’ve been following Ashley over at A Lady Goes West for literally years. She’s my biggest blogger inspiration, she runs great social media, balances herself family, is a published writer, and kickass fitness instructor. Plus, she moved cross country twice.
She just posted a blog post sharing her December photos and I thought, hey- why don’t I share mine?
I’ve shared a few photos on Instagram and changed my profile picture and cover photo on Facebook. But the rest were either made into canvases (one for our home, one for my parents’ home, and one for his parents’ home).
We used Sweet Blake Photography, and she was absolutely wonderful. We booked a smaller session, since we only needed a phot photos. Originally my plan was two photos of Sassy and me, two photos of Ryan and Me, and a photo of all three of us. She suggested we head down to a little park near the water on Daniel Island, and it was a great choice.

Finding outfits was ridiculous. We found Ryan’s cardigan first, then Sassy fell in love with a skirt and a matching cardigan. We bought 4-5 shirt options for her, and I tried on the entire sweater collection at TJ Maxx. Finally I ended up at Burlington, which is hit or miss, and found a cute jumper. It came with a short sleeved white top, but we wanted to avoid white. So I paired it with a black long sleeve shirt. Then we went back to Sassy’s shirt options and gave her a black and white striped shirt under the cardigan. (I had originally didnt want the cardigan with the skirt; I told her one or the other.) Ryan’s outfit was way once we were settled- a black heather tee and khakis he had already. Oh- and he bought boots, Sassy got boots, and I snagged us both tights for smooth legs. I already had boots to match.
The funniest part- it was so fricken hot. We wanted fall photos and chose fall outfits, but this is south Carolina! Life in the lowcountry sure does have its own seasons, and summer lasts forever.
I feel like this photo sums us up perfectly.
There is so much that I could critique about myself in this photo, but I refuse. The memories are here and the smiles are real.
This is the photo we made into a canvas for Ryan’s family. I love that we are the focus, but there’s actually a bridge behind us that is removed with the exposure. It’s almost extra special knowing that, even though it’s not visible to others unless they’re looking.
My sweet Sassy was stealing the spotlight the entire time. She is such a beautiful soul, and I am really going to cherish these photos forever.

There they are! Aren’t they lovely? If you haven’t had a family photo shoot lately, I thoroughly recommend it. The investment is in the moment, but the everlasting memories are priceless.
