Ten Unique Ideas for Ladies Night Out

When was the last time you had a ladies night out with your friends?

Y’all… I have felt so suffocated lately. This pandemic is no joke. Even being an introvert, I am ready to connect with friends and GTFO of my house. While it’s important to still socially distance, the curve flattening (slightly) means that ladies night is not canceled. Kids going back to school (whether or not they are going to the building) means moms can get together again. Heck, if your kiddos are participating in a school pod, those mamas are the best for a MNO because yall’s families are already in the same exposure bubble!

As a young toddler mom, I was all for the ladies brunch. A bunch of mamas came together with their kiddos and enjoyed company before nap time. But now that my kiddo is older, I want an evening out. And I know I’m not the only one. I am longing for a Ladies Night!

Repeat after me: I do not need alcohol to have fun

Even though “Mom’s Night Out” often goes hand in hand with images of mamas drinking away their stress, I will never encourage other mothers to drink as a result of having children. In my opinion, that gives your kids the impression that instead of bringing joy to your life, it brings you pain you need to drink away.

If you choose to enjoy a drink or two when on MNO, go for it. But alcohol is not required to enjoy a night out with your friends. Not a mama, or maybe you’re a dog mom? Come with us anyway. Anyone can enjoy. Oh, and even though this is geared towards ladies, there’s nothing that says your dude friends can’t tag along if you invite them!

Moms Night Out Ideas (when socially distancing isn’t a concern)

The most important part about scheduling a MNO, other than finding a sitter (if Dad is unavailable) or a time that works for everyone is actually choosing what to do. Some of us are not interested in the dinner and drinks scene, and want something more exciting. Here are ten unique ideas to reconnect with your mama friends.

  1. Creative Class. Over the past few years painting classes have grown in popularity, but since then even more creative classes have sprung up. If painting isn’t your interest, look at alternatives like pottery or wood building. Not only will you enjoy the time with your friends, but have something personalized to bring home to showcase.
  2. Beach Night. Pack a picnic with a charcuterie board (aka an adult lunch box) and head down to the shore. Most families will be gone as the sun sets, so your closest friends can enjoy conversation without the splash and screaming of other people’s children (since you’ve probably dealt with your own kiddos rough and tumbling all day)
  3. Skating Rink. Somehow during quarantine, the Gen Zers on Tik Tok (follow me here) made roller skating super trendy again. But millenials and Boomers have been enjoying this past time since we were their age. Show up and show the younger generation how you roll.
  4. Book Club. What’s better than a bunch of people coming together to talk about a book they’ve all read? Book club is a double trouble because it’s not limited to evenings. If nights don’t work, meet up in the morning at a cafe, or grab coffee to go and sit in a park to discuss. (Check out my book reviews if you need some suggestions) A book club is also a great way to get your ladies night reoccurring, if you plan to for a new book each month.
  5. Shooting Range. Every woman (actually every person) should know how to shoot a gun, and do it right. Another great option is to plan a self defense workshop first, then hit the range as a round two. Or, make it a competition and the best shot gets a free shot at dinner.
  6. Axe Throwing. See above, but with brute force.
  7. Karaoke. Every mom group (or friend group) should go to karaoke at least once. Take the pressure off by choosing funny songs, instead of trying to funnel your Celine moment and putting the audience to sleep. Bonus points if you dress up in eccentric costumes and pull your friends on stage.
  8. Game Night. Go tech free for the evening and enjoy the board games we grew up with. Each lady can bring a game (or two), like Pictionary, Monopoly, or Clue. Or, see if your town has a board game cafe.
  9. Host a Period Party. Party with a purpose and put together period packs for local homeless shelters. Assign each friend to bring certain menstrual supplies (liners, tampons, pads, wipes, or bags), then set up an assembly line to fill the packs. Each bag should include 7 of each, to help a person stay sanitary during their period.
  10. Get Sweaty. There have been a huge surge in athleisure, and fundraiser fitness events. Look for a yoga class in the park, or Zumba class at the rec center. If fitness classes still haven’t started in your town due to Covid-19, pull up some workout videos and workout in your living room instead. No leg warmers required. Heck, it’s not cardio, so I don’t even care if you wear a bra.

Upgrading a Ladies Night or Moms Night Out

Do you want to take your Ladies Night, or Moms Night Out, to the next level? Consider chipping in for a ride in style. Sometimes the best way to relax is to relinquish all the responsibility, and treat yourself and your friends like royalty. If you live in the Charleston area, take advantage of the local transportation company Lowcountry Valet and Shuttle Co to take your night to the next level. You can treat yourself, and your friends, like the royalty you are and arrive in style in a classic limousine, or vintage car or bus. They offer more than wedding transportation for your guests to marvel as you arrive.

Some of my fondest holiday memories were taking a luxury vehicle with family into the City for dinner and to see a show. While the shows themselves are always amazing, and the food is delicious, the best part is the ride in. We sit back and relax, enjoy a drink or two, and catch up with each others’ lives. It’s so nice to have everyone in one car, instead of split across a caravan. No one is forced to be the driver trying to split focus on the road and conversation.

No matter how many friends are joining you, or your budget, Lowcountry Valet and Shuttle Co can accommodate the perfect vehicle for your event. You can choose your vehicle, and request a quote, right on the website. Or give them a call to make sure you and your ladies can get exactly what you need to make the night something to remember.

As always, I want to know what you think! Where are you going on your next ladies night? And if you’re local, I would love to meet up for a caffeinated bev and chatter.
