I don’t know about you, but I’m feeling like 2022 is about to be OVER. Goodbye to another chaotic year of constant adjustments and resilience and finding a new flow with this new life. This fully aligns with my 2022 word of the year, shift, because I set my goals for the year and allowed myself to stay flexible and do what needed to be done to get there- even when that meant shifting the plan multiple times.
Before we dive into my Word of the Year of 2023, and my suggestion list, let’s recap about the Word of the Year… (copied from Word of the Year 2022 blog post)
What is a Word of the Year
Exactly what it sounds like. It is a word that you choose to dedicate your self reflection to for the year. It’t not a resolution. It’s not even a goal (you know how much I love goals). Good goals can be measured, but the glory of a WOTY is it’s about your mindset. It’s not about reaching a measurable goal that can be reached one day. A Word of the Year is about setting a focus for the entire year. Will you feel connected to your Word every day? Of course not. But the WOTY is there to remind us of our greater intent. It’s an opportunity to grow. (Actually, Grow is a great WOTY choice!)
Benefits of Choosing a Word of the Year
- It keeps you focused on your overall growth as a person, not a specific qualitative achievement. Instead of feeling discouraged when you don’t reach a resolution, you can constantly reflect on your word.
- There’s no way to fail at your WOTY.
- You get to choose your own interpretation.
Past Words of the Year:
Although I’ve chosen a WOTY for many years, I lost track of them from before my blogging revival. For that reason, I like to include my past words of the year in each new year’s post.
- 2016: Clarity
- 2017: Non-Complacent
- 2018: Monetize
- 2019: Execute
- 2020: Push
- 2021: Rise
- 2022: Shift
Of course you can check out my past blog posts as well, if you want to read about why I chose my 2020 Word of the Year and my 2021 Word of the Year. Both of those posts also include some WOTY ideas for you to choose from as well!

What is my Word of the Year for 2023
Y’all- I am not a Swiftie. Admittedly, I have jammed out to a Taylor Swift song or two in my day, and I’m the first to admit she is a marketing genius. Her fan base is ridiculous. But for me, I am not obsessed.
But as I thought about what I wanted to dedicate my 2023 to, I ended up choosing a song title from her new album. Honestly, the word might not have come to me if not for that reason.
Initially I was feeling drawn to the word sparkle. It’s my own version of thrive, after a terrible time period where I had to rise and then rebirth from the chaos. I finally feel like I’m in a place where I can settle down and really shine.
Instead, I am choosing the word bejeweled for my 2023 WOTY. It better represents where I stand right now, because something that is bejeweled isn’t naturally sparkly. It needs to have something added to it before it shimmers. This is me. I am a dusty, damaged, divorcee but I am ready to surround myself with the people who make me happy and allow my joy to turtle radiate. I will be in the places that set my soul on fire and do the things that allow me to explore my passions. I am going to be the best bejeweled version of myself.
