Have you ever wanted to travel the country, but something’s always holding you back? Maybe its time, money, your job, or even your family that’s keeping you for the great adventures that wait for you outside of your current town. Whatever the case may be, there’s a solution. Insert: the Locally Us Box.
Okay, so the Locally.Us subscription box won’t actually take you to the cities they feature, but they bring the city to you. The cofounders and owners personally visit each of the locations to source out the contents, and make sure they align with the Locally.Us vision. Then, the seasonal box is created.
Each Locally.Us box represents a specific city. So while, no, they can’t ask your boss for a raise so you can catch that flight to the Low Country, they can send a splash of South Carolina straight to your door.
Locally.Us is a woman owned company that curates handcrafted items from other woman owned companies in a specific region. Each locally.us box has 6-7 handmade items from a region (like Boston, or Charleston). There are four boxes produced each year, each from a different region, and they can be purchased individually with no commitment, or on a subscription basis.
This summer, Locally.Us featured the beautiful, historic beach town of Charleston. Even though I live right here in Summerville, I was eager to purchase a Summer Charleston Box. I couldn’t wait to get my hands on all of the local brands they had curated. There’s nothing I love more than supporting local businesses, so this kills two birds with one stone, and I was thrilled.
What’s Inside the Locally.Us Summer Charleston Box?
Although half of the fun of a subscription box comes from the unboxing process, and seeing what’s inside, there’s also part of you that wants to know if it’s worth the investment (it is!). So here is a sneak peak of everything in the Summer Charleston Box from Locally Us.
Jojo’s Ring
Although the actual ring is in that cute little pouch (you’ll have to check JoJo’s Rings out on social to see what they look like), the first item in the box was a recycled key molded into a ring. Not only does this have a green initiative to reuse, reduce, and recycle, but they’re also giving back with each purchase as well.
Hand-stamped Card
There’s something super magical about snail mail, even though we’re living in a digital world where we crave the instant satisfaction of response. But this super cute card from Island Haus Paperie is a great way to show someone special that, well, they are special. Write your message inside and send it on it’s way. Oh, you’ll need a stamp. Hopefully you remember what those are.
Lemon Cookies
Okay, first of all, I am obsessed with people named Katherine. Technically I like all variations and spelling, but my spelling is obviously my favorite. And I love to bake. So finding a local baker named Katherine, who is also caught up in local folk lore… these cookies from Grey Ghost Bakery was instant obsession. Plus, I was literally drooling the entire time I stuffed my face with these cookies. They are delicious.
Charcoal Mask
My favorite part about this Motherland Essentials charcoal mask isn’t that it’s chemical free, or handmade, or in a glass jar- although I like those things too. I specifically love that it’s packaged in the dry form, which means it will last forever! Just mix up what you need for the night.
Coasters
We have been more and more interested in coasters lately, since becoming adults with furniture not found in the back to college section. These pineapple coasters from Turquoise & Palm are metallic, with cork bottoms so they don’t slip. And the pineapples are super cute.
Macrame Plant Hanger
Admittedly, although adorable, I was initially concerned about this little planter from The Little Loom because I have terrible luck keeping plants alive. Tiny humans are way easier than plants, especially when you have cats. But, I found a spider plant at the farmer market, and those things are indestructible. Plus, they are hangers! So it was a win win, and now I have greenery in my living room.
Peachy Pouch
Most of the items in the Summer Charleston Box are pineapple themed, probably because of the big pineapple fountain iconic to the area. Peaches, symbolic of Georgia, may not ring a bell to Charleston themes, but who cares. This pouch from the Borough is fricken perfect for feminine supplies, or keeping your keys and essentials are the gym, or even a clutch wallet when spending a casual day out.
