Step into Fall: Fall Shoes

Are you ready to step into fall? Hold the PSL for a few more weeks (even though it’s debuting at Starbucks earlier than ever), but get ready for fall because it’s just around the corner. Before we know it there will be crunchy leaves on the ground and that crisp smell of autumn wafting through the air. Step into the fall season with a new pair, or two, of fall shoes.

Thankfully, most of your summer shoes will carry over into the fall, at least until the crisp air gets too chilly. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t treat yourself to a new pair of fall shoes. Shoes have different functions, and also match different outfits. Sure, we want our shoes to be versatile, but not every shoe works for every day.

Start the season with an inventory of your shoe collection. Donate, sell, or toss anything that doesn’t fit, is no longer comfortable, or is scuffed beyond repair. Be honest with how many pairs you actually have as we go into the new season, and use that number to access how many fall shoes you actually need. Think function and occasion.

fall shoes Some of the fall shoes I tried

Your outfit is never complete without a pair of shoes, and arguable the shoes on your feet are the most important part because of the functionality. It’s important to balance quality with affordability, but never sacrifice to save a few bucks because your feet will hate you. Our feet are used the rest of our lives, and it’s important we take care of them now with the shoes that we wear. So I tried some shoes on, but they were full price. So hang tight and wait for the sales! The wait will be worth it. Don’t settle for cheaper value at the cost of cheaper quality.

Show me the Shoes… The Fall Shoes

Without further ado, I tried on six pairs of fall shoes and here they are. Remember, any product link may be an affiliate link, and I earn a small commission if you purchase the item. That commission is what helps to run this site. I tried cutout booties, peep-toe pumps, ankle booties, wedge sneakers, and heeled mules. Each fall shoe style has its own purpose and functionality, and would work with a different outfit. Plus, they’re all great for chasing the kiddos.

fall shoe try-on

Gimme all the booties, wedges, and and earthtones, hello! Although there’s still a few weeks before the full selection of fall shoes hits the shelves, there are plenty available to get a head start and grab the best choices before they sell out of your size. (Size 8 problems, anyone else?)

Ankle Booties

I have to admit, I had seen similar shoes on social media and wasn’t impressed; they were a bit too boho for me. Heck, even wearing them with rockstar jeans has me thinking I’ll be prancing off to a prairie soon. But, truthfully they are extremely comfortable. And, since I am so picky with foot support, the ankle support passes all the tests. They slip on and off easily, but still have enough structure to prevent longterm foot damage. They would be super cute with a floral dress or button detailed midi dress. They may not be my personal style, but they are cute and comfortable.    Wenda Cut Out Booties

The essential fall shoe basic is an ankle bootie, and booties with a v-cut are so convenient. Slip them on and off without sacrificing the support of a full shoe. Plus, a small extra side cut out adds even more slide ability.  The micro-heel means everyone can wear them, even tall girls who don’t want to tower over their short husbands (like me), or the ladies who are simply a putz in heels (also me). These booties are legit the most versatile fall shoe in a wardrobe, and everyone should add them.Nora v-cut ankle booties

Peep-toe Pumps

Living in the south means that peep-toe booties can be worn a lot longer without the impending threat of snow. The cut-out detail is great for airflow, aka no sweat, which makes these pumps super versatile year round. The thick heel means even the klutziest person can walk confidently without tripping over the sidewalk. These fall shoes are super cute, and comfortable too.

Wedge Sneakers

Last year we saw a rise in popularity of wedge sneakers, and it looks like this year will be no different. Wedge sneakers add a dash of class to the casual street shoe. I will never jump on the white dad shoe trend, but I can fully support the sneaker wedge.

The Cindy Wedge is an affordable alternative to some of the high end wedge sneakers on the market (I’m looking at you, Steve Madden Wedgie), and actually very similar in design. The hidden wedge is smooth and comfortable, and adds height without being obnoxious. They’re actually very easy to walk in, like a sneaker, despite the heel. Personally, the actual platform on this sneaker was a bit thick for my liking. I like the fact that the wedge inside is hidden, so don’t fully understand why the external platform is so big.

I tried a second pair of wedge sneakers, and these were true love.  The Kolie Wedge Sneaker is also a designer dupe, with a low wedge (and no platform) and perforated details. They were extremely comfortable, even more than the Cindy, and the taupe color
literally matches any outfit. These will be joining my fall shoes (heck, I’ll wear these suckers year round) as soon as they go on sale. Kolie Wedge Sneaker

Heeled Mules

Last, but not least, I tried a pair of mules. Y’all know I try to avoid slides whenever possible, because they overuse the big toe muscle. But the cuteness of these woven cuties convinced me to try anyway. The slide is convenient, of course. And the heel means less toe muscle and more shuffle. So they may work for occasions without much walking, or an office job. They’re cute and comfy, but I like to think long term.
