Cardigans You’ll Want to Wear

Confession: I have not listened to Taylor Swift’s new song Cardigan, and don’t plan to. Truth is, I’m not jumping on the folklore album trend at all. But as for cardigans, I’m not about miss that bandwagon. Cardigans are popping up in stores, and I need to try them out. I picked five of my favorites that you will totally want to wear.

It seems strange to already be thinking about cardigans, as I’m still rotating through biker shorts and tanks on repeat. The thought of wearing a cardigan right now has me sweating. But if you wait until you need something, when the season begins, you’re too late. Your options will be limited, if you can find one at all. So plan ahead, and snag a few now. That way they’re ready in your closet when the temperature drops.

That Cardigan Guy on Tik Tok

If you have Tik Tok, you may have seen Adam LaRose. Although he is not the largest creator, he is certainly one of the best branded creators. Adam LaRose wears a blue cardigan in every one of his videos. This has made his videos instantly recognizable.

So I decided to jump on the cardigan trend and see if I could pull it off without looking like a little ole librarian. Not that I have any issues with librarians, of course. They’re my literary heroes. But I want to look polished and less mess, while still being cozy during the fall transition period.

Affordable Cardigans

I headed over to the happiest place on earth, Target, grabbed a coffee then went rouge in the women’s section. The fitting rooms are still closed, thanks to the ‘rona, but I needed to try them on. I need to touch and feel the fabric, and know how tight it feels on my arms. Thankfully the other patrons weren’t bothered by my impromptu mirror fashion show.

Basic black cardigan that matches everything, and has pockets for snacks? Yes pease. During a non-covid season, you can also use those pockets for tissues (clean only, please). This cardigan was very comfortable and light weight. It comes in multiple colors and patterns.

Though I usually stay away from color with my layering pieces, so it matches more, mustard is one of my favorite fall colors. This cardigan was lightweight and comfortable, and had a knit pattern on the back that might prevent sweat. I’m not sure if that’s the purpose, but that’s where my mind went.

This was the first cardigan I grabbed from the rack, and truthfully my favorite. It has major librarian vibes, and I am ok with that (just call me a book lady). Long cardigans usually hit me in the wrong spot, but this was the perfect length. The fabric is warm, but very breathable.

Spoiler alert, this cardigan is exactly the same as the mustard cardigan, but in black. Black matches everything, and I couldn’t resist trying the neutral as well as the bold color.

I initially didn’t want to try this cardigan, because of the texture. It looks as though it will be very itchy, but thats not the case at all. It’s incredible stretchy, like, the stretchiest of all the cardigans I tried. It is also the warmest, but not itchy whatsoever.

I chose this cardigan because of the slide slit and belt on the back, because it gave more structure. I am always nervous that cardigans will make me look frumpy. Although comfortable, this is the only cardigan I might size up. The sleeves specifically were tighter than the rest, and might be uncomfortable over a long sleeved shirt.

Long story short, this girl is totally here for the cozy cardigan trend. I can’t wait to wear my faves on repeat long into fall (and even winter, under a denim jacket). The cardigans above are soft, warm but with airflow, and have perfect arm fit. I can’t express how much I despise tight arms. They are flattering around the waist, and the pockets are deep and functional. Are you ready to jump into a cardigan during this year’s sweater weather?
