Step into Fall: Shoes and Booties

Feeling deja vu? That’s because I did a similar roundup last year! Check out the Step Into Fall 2019 edit for these fall shoes, and more. Keep in mind that some of those shoes may no longer be available, or prices may have changed.

Sassy and I spent an hour at Target trying on these fall shoes, so you don’t have to. As always, I focus on comfort, sensibility, and longterm foot health (we need good support!). Of course a quick store try-on won’t account for longterm wear, and I can’t speak on how well they do in the elements or with extended use.

The numbers above are strange, and I’m sorry. I tried to build the collage to be visually appealing (and fit!) but forgot to consider the styles that I tried multiple colors. Oops.

1. Emma Bootie

Emma is a basic bootie with a heel zipper, nearly identical to a high end designer boot. The heel zipper allows easy on and off, with a cute tassle. Plus, the blog heel is perfect height.

Sizing: Go down half a size.

Colors: Black, Brown/Leopard, Grey/Snake, Taupe

2. Nora Bootie

This bootie is absolute fire. Last year it was frequently sold out online and in store, and this season will be no different. It’s a classic cut out bootie at a super affordable price point, plus there are multiple colors available. If you snagged one last year, you know you love them, and you’ll want to grab a second color. If I had to complain about one thing, it’s the socks showing through the cutout. Otherwise, they are perfect. They’re comfortable, the heel is short enough to wear all day, and they slip on for easy wear but stay on tight.

Sizing: True to size.

Colors: Black, Brown/Leopard, Cognac, Taupe

3. Ellie Boot

This boot goes just past the ankles, for slightly more coverage than a small bootie. A small block heel is comfortable and easy to walk. It is a Chelsea boot, meaning it has the elastic on the sides. This style is readily available across multiple retailers right now, following a strong trend, but Target sells out online very quickly. Do not go this season without it.

Sizing: Go down half a size.
Colors: Grey, Black, Cognac, Brown/Leopard

4. Dylan Bootie:

These booties have the basic bootie shape, with the tops falling just at the ankle. The side zipper leads for a smaller side cutout than the Nora, so socks are less of a problem. There are small, laser cut details, so don’t wear them in the winter in the northeast or you’ll end up with wet feet.

Sizing: True to Size

Colors: Taupe, Gray, Green Olive, Cognac

5. Chelsea Rainboot

Before I even pushed publish on this post, this photo above blew up on LikeToKnow. It because these boots are a favorite. They definitely run a little big (whole sizes only) which would make them more likely to slip off or have water splash inside with actual puddle jumping (probably don’t advise). But they are pretty comfortable for rainboots, unlike the big clunkers we had back in college. They can definitely be worn outside and don’t need to be swapped out when you get to your location. Target has multiple colors available, so it’s perfectly acceptable to grab a few pairs to match every outfit.

Sizing: Size Down a Size

Colors: Black, Brown Leopard, Gray Snake, Gray, Green, Black, Burgundy

6. Cindy Wedge Sneaker

This wedge sneaker is great for people looking for the wedge without a lot of height. This wedge is pretty flat, for only a small lift. They are a great comparable shoe to high end designer wedge sneakers, and last multiple seasons. They have a size zipper on the outside ankle.

Sizing:

Colors: Brown/Leopard

7. Adeline Loafer

Considering I don’t work outside the home, I’ve never gotten into workwear. But these loafers were too cute not to try out. They are super comfortable, and pass my ankle support test. (Spoiler Alert: I do not approve of ballet flats!) I tried them without socks, and did not feel like they would become sweaty quickly. However little socklets could make sure. These loafers have a very small cutout on each side, adding cute dimension.

Sizing: True to Size

Colors: Cognac, Black, Taupe

8. Kolie Wedge Sneaker

Last year I stalked these sneakers all seasons until they went on clearance when I finally snagged the taupe, and yall… I wear them year round! They are casual for picking apples or shopping for Thanksgiving dinner, but can also be dressed up for Sunday service or date night. The black definitely has a stronger workwear vibe, but they’re both awesome. They have elastic across the top of the foot, and an outside zipper, so they are very easy to put on and take off.

Sizing: True to size

Colors: Black, Taupe, Brown/Leopard

9. Kamryn Combat Boot

I am totally here for the combat boot trend. There are a few different combat boots at Target right now, and I tried two pairs. The Kamryn is my preference. I like how it has the rope-like laces instead of the flat laces. The ankle also falls in a good spot where it won’t rub aggressively when I walk. There are subtle details around the toe and heel, giving a vintage vibe. Very very cute.

Sizing: These are wide width, so size down if you have narrow feet. Otherwise, true to size.

Colors: Black, Cognac, Taupe

10. Micah Loafer

The biggest difference between the Micah and the Adeline is the toe- these have a slight point whereas the previous is rounded. There are also many more colors available in the Micah. Both are great for workwear or casual fall fashion. Check the colors for different fabric options.

Sizing: True to Size

Colors: Gray, Brown (Snake), Orange/Leopard (looks more like tiger), Taupe (snake), Bone (snake), Cognac, Brown/Leopard, Studded Black, Black

11. Brie Combat Boot

Although I personally prefered the Kamryn, these boots have a slightly more formal appearance, were very comforable, and were easy to put on. (No one likes forcing their feet into a pair of tight boots). The exterior is much smoother than the Kamryn, and the laces are visibly flat. They also have a much higher heel (which isn’t accurately portrayed in the photo above).

Sizing: True to Size

Colors: Black, Bone, Gray/Snake, Burgundy

Bonus: Reese Quilted Sneaker

The Reese slip on shoe didn’t fit in my collage, but I needed to add it to the round-up. Last year I snagged the pink pair, and they are a constant grab and go shoe.  Affectionately nicknamed “ham sandwich shoes”, the quilted pattern is pretty iconic. This year I tried the leopard print and snake print, because it looks like animal print is never going out of style.

Sizing: Go down half a size, or a full size if you try them on.

Colors: White, Gray, Black, Brown/Leopard, Gray/Snake, Black/White, Green

There you have it, round two of some of the fall shoe trends on the shelves this season. Remember, you don’t need to fill your closet just because they are super cute. Always try to find shoes that are practical, match multiple items in your wardrobe, and can ideally be worn into the next season. And of course, if you have the Target App you can watch for the 20% sale on shoes that pops up every few weeks. That’s how I snag mine each season!

Pro Tip: Divide the cost of the shoe by the estimated number of times you will wear them. Then ask yourself if you would pay that amount to wear them one time. If no, don’t buy them!
